Points are an integral part of Questlog and users receive them primarily by completing Quests.
Points are assigned to a Quest automatically as the final step before publishing. Click on the red “PUBLISH” button to open this final step. In the new window, you can then press the “CALCULATE” button to calculate the number of points.
Once this process has been completed, the Quest can officially be launched. ๐
We think it is important to have a logical structure in how many points a user receives as a reward upon completing a Quest. To this end, we have established some guidelines.
Let’s go over the guidelines in this blog, one by one, so you have a rough idea of how points are calculated in the Questlog Builder. ๐ง
Base points of a Quest are always a multiple of 5 (such as 5, 10, 15, 20, 25).
1. Guidelines GPS Quests
How many points at the Three Country Point? ๐
GPS Quests are located in the public space and are completed by walking into a marked GPS field, also known as a geofence.
There are three types of GPS Quests:
-
- Single (one objective to complete)
- Multi (multiple sub-objectives to complete)
- Route (multiple sub-objectives, visualised in a route)
We will first look at Single and Multi together, since they share the same approach, and then turn our attention to Route, which requires a bit of a different angle.
Single and Multi โ๏ธ๐ค
These Quests are often landmarks or recognition points in the public space. Think of monuments, historic buildings, works of art, etc.
Landmarks start at 5 points.
Landmarks receive +5 points in case of (1) a larger object or (2) multiple sub-objectives to complete.
For example, in the Buildings category, a council house is a larger object than a roadside maria chapel.
Landmarks receive 5 additional points for each step in fame: (1) local, (2) national, and (3) international.
Route ๐
Route Quests are walking routes, which we categorise on the back end based on length, difficulty, and fame.
Base points are calculated based on route length: 0 – 1 km = 5 points, 1 – 7 km = 10 points, 7 – 11 km = 15 points en 11+ km = 20 points.
Routes with a higher difficulty receive +5 points for ‘moderate’ and +10 points for ‘hard’.
Higher difficulty is calculated only on routes that are recognised by the system as a hike. This is often in hilly or mountainous terrain.
Routes receive 5 additional points for each step in fame: (1) national and (2) international.
2. Guidelines SCAN Quests
A unique way for businesses to place themselves on the map ๐บ๏ธ
SCAN Quests have a link to a business in hospitality, recreation, or culture. These too have 3 types:
-
- Standard (only requirement to visit business)
- Single (one objective to complete)
- Multi (multiple sub-objectives to complete)
Again, we will look at Single and Multi together. Standard we can keep pretty standard.
Standard ๐ท๏ธ
Every company that signs up for Questlog automatically receives one Standard SCAN Quest. Users can complete this type simply by visiting the business; buying a ticket, placing an order, etc.
Standard Quests award 10 points.
Single and Multi ๐ง๐ฆ
Unlike GPS Quests, the Single and Multi variant of SCAN Quests follow a fairly simple point allocation.
Single Quests award 10 points.
Points for Multi Quests are determined based on number of sub-objectives: 2 – 3 = 10 points, 4 – 9 = 15 points, 10+ = 20 points.
3. Guidelines Cluster Quests
Great for thematic collections ๐งฎ
Cluster Quests are an umbrella variant where other Quests are the sub-objectives. The cluster is completed when the linked list of Quests is completed.
Points are determined based on number of sub-objectives: 2 – 3 = 10 points, 4 – 8 = 15 points, 9 – 19 = 20 points en 20+ = 25 points.
